Busy Week

I started off last week in Indy picking up the Saturday night run to Atalanta. It's two stops in Suwanee and Atlanta. I like this run because the lumping at Suwanee is super easy, and it pays $175. Then I was supposed to pick up a load in Macon, but I got my notes mixed up with some from a few weeks back and I went to fresh express in Morrow instead, and when I pulled up to the gate I realized I made a mistake and I told the guard I was in the wrong place, she's like what are you looking for? I said I'm supposed to be in Macon. (75 miles away) She just looked at me like I was an idiot. So I turned around and headed to the correct place and got loaded for Salisbury, NC for Monday morning.
I delivered that and headed over to Albamarle and grabbed a load of carpet and took it back to the yard and headed home for the night.

Came back Tuesday evening and hooked up to a load at the yard of doors going to job sites in VA and MD. I went I70 to I79 down to I68 and I had an ETA of 0430 and I was supposed to be on the 1st job site at 0700. Well I wasn't sure if there was going to be parking or not so I pulled off in a rest area on 68 two hours away and set my alarm for 0430, well it went off and instead of getting out of bed I hit snooze and didn't wake up again until 0530. So I called the contact and told him I was running a little late and I hoped to be there by 0745, well that wasn't going to happen once I hit rush hour on 270. Ended up showing up at 0900 and we off loaded 100 doors.

The site was for some new condos being built.

Now the problem wasn't with the job sites for being late, the problem came because I was supposed to pick up a backhaul to Ohio by 1300 in York, PA and there was no way I could do that, so we lost the load. So I finished up at the first site and headed to Baltimore, a new town home site. I showed up at 1230, just in time for lunch break. So after they got back to work I got backed in to the site and finished the unloading of about thirty doors, then headed to the TA in Baltimore to wait for another load.
We ended up not finding anything else and I deadheaded back to the yard and hooked to a reefer trailer and loaded cheese in Louisville, OH then dropped it back in Indy, took the Friday morning run to Illinois and St Louis, unloaded at all the grocery stores and loaded up produce Friday evening, delivered to Aldi warehouse in Springfield, OH this morning.
So it was a pretty good week, 3600 miles, $175 driver unload, $100 stop pay, $50 labor for unloading doors.

Back to my Peterbilt

So as you know, I said I was in a brand new Volvo since January of this year. Now I can't say they're bad trucks, they are in fact very comfortable and driver friendly. Problem is it just doesn't fit with my personality, I just felt out of place in that big bus. I mean it feels more like driving a big minivan than a truck, I prefer a truck that feels like a truck! I don't even mind a little shake and rattle, it's a truck ya know.  Also I'm not a fan of the high tech computer dashes, I like my Pete 386 because it still has the old school dash board with gauges. I mean it's a small cab but it feels like home to me, I love the ol girl and I missed jammin them gears! I've had this truck since day 1, with the exception of the last few months, and I'm about to hit 1/2 million miles on her! But I'm gonna keep her until the very end or unless something better comes along. Got some plans for a few upgrades next month while I'm home on vacation, I hope it works out.

I will miss that old Volvo stereo though, my stereo in here is worthless when it comes to Aux audio, but I did go to Verizon and buy myself a nice kickin' bluetooth speaker that works just fine.
